Processions of Holy Week

The evening processions leading up to Easter are an ancient tradition for the town.
Three religious societies (Compagnia S. Antonio, white dressed; Buona Morte in black and Compagnia del Gesù in blue), established between the 16th and 17th century, dressed in the traditional hooded cloaks and carrying statues, representing a moment of the the passion of Jesus, parade along the main streets of the city.


Every two years, on Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday, there is a re-enactment of the Passion of Christ. Over one hundred locals interpret the characters and events of the last days of Christ, following a gospelinspired script that was written by Mons. Angelo Tafi

Palio dei rioni - Horse Race

The origins of this event date back to the last centuries.
It takes place every third Sunday in June, the feast day of the Madonna delle Grazie del Rivaio in Piazzale Garibaldi. On this day, the three Rioni (districts: Rione Cassero, Porta Fiorentina and Porta Romana) parade through the streets in historical costume, waving flags, and terminate the event with a horse race.
The previous day is dedicated to propitiatory dinners, selection and coupling of the horses

Castiglionese Summer

The period from July to September is packed with events such as street theatre, folk festivals, concerts, food and wine-tasting in “agriturismi” (farm hotels), exhibitions, trekking, classical music and cinema.
